RingCentral provides cloud computing based business phone systems designed for today’s mobile and distributed business world. The RingCentral technology platform eliminates the need for expensive and technically complex on-premise legacy phone systems. By combining a hosted, multiextension business phone system with advanced voice and fax functionality, RingCentral simplifies business communication for modern, flexible business environments.
Since RingCentral already has a prototype for the iPhone application, our task was to develop a prototype application for the Android OS version 2.1 that can send and receive text messages over IP. The messages will be sent over the internet only, so the application does not have to use a mobile provider to send and receive. On the other hand, the user cannot send or receive anything if he or she is not connected to the internet. The design should match the company’s colour style and should look smooth. It has to be easy to work with and should not give the user a lot of problems or confusion.
The project was an internship project inside the company Check-IT which is located at the Software Park in Xiamen, China. While keeping weekly meetings with the company RingCentral, we managed to create a successful prototype which received the reward of best Check-IT Project.
During the development for this prototype, i took the role as Interaction / Interface designer. I was responsible for creating an easy to use interface that is accessible to every user and present it with attractive visuals, recognisable icons and functionality.
